Day 2 in Sri Lanka started as you would expect from us as we slept in and almost missed checkout... We dumped our bags and went a wander along the sea front where we were greated with snake charmers and a UV index of 11 (We thought it only went up to 10...). From here We decided to jump in a Tuk Tuk and head to the floating markets.

The floating markets left a lot to be desired unfotunately as most of the shops were wither abandoned or kebab shops... looks pretty tho!

We moved on from the floating market to find some food, and happened across what looked like an okay restaurant. However, the reviews were not particularly good. We thought we would take the risk and were glad that we did, we ordered a single portion of the Egg Kotthu Roti which is Roti, cut up and fried in spices with veg… It was bloody delicious (especially when you added the chilli oil) and only cost around £1.50. We were dead impressed (and it appears we escaped without food poisoning also which is an added bonus!).

With hunger satiated, we went through some market briefly and walked back to pick up our bags on onwards to our next stop which was a Hostel. We arrived and were pleasantly surprised at the standard given it was only a tenner a night.

We braved a storm with a few sketchy moments as it seemed like the lightening was right above us before settling into a hostel dinner, which was one again a Kotthu Roti, however, this one was even better than the one at lunch so when we were offered a second helping we couldn’t say no.

We filled in some holes in out itinerary and then went off to bed. Unfortunately, as we write this on the morning of the third day we can report that despite the hostel being nice, there was construction work going on until 6am which compounded with the jet lag to mean we had pretty much no sleep.
Oh well, onwards to Sigiriya, spirits still high, 2 besties on an adventure.
